ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
Do fuck off. He's turning 29 this year and has 1 year left on his contract.

This is probably his last good season before his legs give way. £10m max and no more.

Yes the teams of 2005/06 and 2015/16 certainly had more talent and a bit of swagger but there were a few bad apples in both. The current squad appears to have a real togetherness.

Good balanced post, Jacket. Clubs can get caught up with a 'flavour of the month' player, seen it multiple times down the years. It actually happened to us with Carroll after initially doing well on loan and we got our fingers badly burnt, albeit that was more down to injuries than loosing form, etc.

IMO 25 mil max would be okay, not not more than that, all considered.

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
if he cost us 5m for half a season then his last year if on loan with us would cost us 10m.

If we sold him with a 3 yr contract he would be worth say 30m tops ins resale value (minus the fact that he'd be 32 at the end of 3 yrs so his value goes down).

I dont see how he's worth more than 20m with 1yr left? Even if he is better than what people thought he hasn't done it constantly for the last 2/3yrs.

Filpe Anderson looked good for half a season as well. I think 20m is good business really.

You just KNOW how this will pan out.

We'll qualify for Europe, the validity of Lingard's loan will be called into question and we'll be docked 12 points.

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
I don't think he'll keep up this form. Like many players fighting for a contract there is a purple patch before they get one and form drops off. His form reflects the good form and feeling in the club. Might be different if we were struggling.
Don't get me wrong, he's a good player but once into his thirties then the years will show on his body and the burst of pace won't be there. I would not get duped into paying over the odds with a big long contract - especially in the current market where clubs are making big losses. 20m maximum and a decent wage or look elsewhere.

This season has excelled most expectations but doesn't come close to those seasons under Pardew and Slav.

Finishing 4th however....

Mace66, what about Bilic’s record breaking 2015/16 season because everyone that I know enjoyed it.

I agree Russ.

I think he goes back to Man Utd next season to give it another chance with them, a team who he has a huge amount of affiliation with.

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
I think we need to be careful that Lingard, playing as well as he is, doesn't have higher aspirations and wants to play in the CL again.

Bottom line is he has no affiliation for West Ham and despite all the crossed arms and badge kissing he will do what is best for him.

He is playing so well. So there will be lots of CL clubs that may look at him and say they will have some of that. They are as much in the hunt for him as us. And if they offer man Utd big money they will take him back and sell him to them.

What West Ham want may not even come into it.

.... and kick on unlike the 1986/87 season. Was it really that long ago we had a top consistent team to be really proud of?

2005 was a consistent team and getting within a whisker of being FA Cup winners. That's the last season i really enjoyed before this.

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
I think we have to be clear that Rice won't be part of any deal.

I suspect it will largely hinge on how much the player wants the move. The first thing they will likely do is chuck a new contract at him to protect his value. Hopefully he would refuse to sign and insist on joining a club where he is first choice and the team is built around him.

Ultimately as long as Bruno Fernandes is there, he is a bench player for them and used in a rotation system.

I expect this will be a protracted transfer that will go on most of the summer either way what with the Euros and them trying to extort the highest price they can get for him. I hope we are identifying alternatives in the mean time.

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
Let's be honest apart from City, Liverpool and Chelsea all the other Premier League clubs around us vying for Champions League or Europa League will be falling over themselves to try and sign. However, we are in pole position to sign him as we gave him his opportunity and he clearly loves being a Hammer. However, the club must keep the jewels in the crown Rice, Soucek, Coufal etc. and kick on unlike the 1986/87 season. Was it really that long ago we had a top consistent team to be really proud of?

I'm not so sure this would hinge on Rice, more the promise of being guaranteed a spot

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
He is much, much better player than I realised. In my defencet, that's because I am not drunk on the Premier league and Champions League marketing so I don't watch those so called top teams much.

That being said, as good as he has been for us, he has 2 and a half years of nothing before January.

Paying out such a massive wedge for someone with such a massive gap in production is a very risky move.

It is tempting when he is on the huge purple patch he's on now, but we could get limbered with the non productive Lingard on huge wages for a long time.

West Ham Fans are quoting -Priceless, not at any price for Declan Rice - Doesn't mean he wont be sold.

Man United cant afford to be too greedy, we cant afford to be too tough in our negotiation.

Add ons for appearances or Seasons played might be the middle way here.

OGS has already said he's a no10 and they have Bruno so would be behind him.

He won't play regularly for them and he wants to play

Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
Cast ahead 12 months from the summer and think of transfer values ..
Lingard -out of contract £0
Rice- with another years development at his current rate ... twice whatever someone would offer this summer

On that basis only an idiot would entertain COVID affected offers for Rice and if Lingard refuses to sign a new contract he will be sold for approx £20m to the club HE wants to join.
If he wants to join us Man U would be forced to accept £20m even if Everton or Spurs say offer £40m.

Rossal 10:33 Fri Apr 9
Re: ManU fans quoting £40m for Lingard
£20M about right, would probably pay £25M as he has been that fucking good

We need to get Jesse to push for it if he wants to come here permanently and then get it done asap, other clubs will be sniffing if we dick around

Wouldnt be surprised tho if OGS wants him back and play a part next season. If i was him id offload Mata on big wages and have Lingard as one of the options in the 3 behind the striker
